STATE AND CLASSROOM BENCHMARKS
Interim Test Scores: Interim tests may be a type of formative tests. Although states can vary, most require three to four interim-benchmark tests to determine how each child is performing on a specific skill. Students are not compared to each other, only whether they have mastered a specific skill set.
The results of these tests tell the teacher what to do next with a specific subject matter criteria. Parents normally do not receive the scores, as they are most often a collective class measurement, not an individual assessment.
But, you, the parent can do your own monitoring through online learning measures. They will also tell what you need to do next to support your child's learning.
Formative tests go on continuously. It is important to find the missing gaps or steps as you travel the learning process.
The aims: to diagnose, teach, practice, evaluate, redirect, and correct. There will be descriptive indicators that you, the parent will ask for. Since teachers do not have the time to teach multiple measures in different ways, this is where you, the parent, comes in to assist your child.
Students may be divided into three groups, based upon the first fall tests; hard, medium, and easy. There will be 3-4 interim test windows; 1 in the fall, 1 in the winter, 1 in the spring, with a final test assessment in the spring.
In some states, each student can receive three testlets in a single testing session. The content balance over the three testlets approximates the content balance of the summative assessment at a given grade level.
The first testlet includes one item for each tested indicator at a given grade level. A student’s score on the first testlet determines the selection of that student’s second testlet. Likewise, the student’s score on the second testlet determines the selection of that student’s third testlet.
By finding the appropriate tools online, you will create a Dashboard of activities for each of your children. This is how they will move forward and progress between the Interim testlets. Weekly feedback updates between you and the teacher is essential.

Let’s go on to understand achievement tests: There are two types: criterion referenced and standardized. Let's find out what these complex terms mean.
